Your Q My A – Teeth Grinding Treatment

Donna asks…
Teeth Grinding???
What causes it? What are treatment options?
I have this issue…I think its stress, but I don’t feel like I’ve been stressed out lately, but my boyfriend says i was grinding my teeth last night in my sleep. I have TMJ, is that a factor? What can I do?

Bruxism Treatment Guy answers:
Teeth grinding is an involuntary movement of the jaw while asleep. It could be stress or just a bad myofunctonal habit while asleep. What you can do is consult a dentist and they will recommend to you wearing mouthguard while sleeping. It stops the grinding and certain mouthguards also corrects TMJ, aligns malpositioned teeth and corrects mouth breathing. At first it will be uncomfortable to wear but you will get use to it in time.
